Our Resident Stories: A Cross-Country Journey to Find Home

Behind the front door of every single-family rental is a resident with a story of why renting this home makes sense. Their stories may be unique, but their destinations are all the same: finding a place that truly feels like home.

A long journey to find home

For Quandra C., that journey involved a cross-country move, living in multiple properties, and realizing the need to prioritize peace and support.

After some major life changes, Quandra C. made the move from California to Georgia. With no family in the area and limited support, she faced the daunting task of finding a home that could meet her needs and those of her children and grandchildren.

“I don’t have any relatives here,” she shared. “Nobody came here with me.”

Her first experience with another property management company left her disappointed. “I didn’t like their practices,” she said, and she decided to make a change.

Unfortunately, that decision coincided with COVID shutdowns that made finding a new rental home more challenging. Just when those challenges seemed most daunting, everything changed when she discovered Main Street Renewal.

It took a few months to find the right home, but in February 2025, she found it and didn’t hesitate to act.

“It wasn’t even listed for two hours before I ran to see it,” she said. “I’m blessed to have gotten this home because I’m still in Gwinnett County, and I’m still with Main Street.”

The new home checked all the boxes : extra rooms and bathrooms for her son and daughter and three grandchildren, a quiet and friendly neighborhood, and proximity to essentials like grocery stores, coffee shops, and pharmacies.

Quandra described the home’s features with joy: “Nice front porch, nice balcony, nice yard, huge garage, big bedrooms—everything is open and I love it. You can’t ask for more space.”

“It’s in a well-rounded area where you don’t have to go far for anything,” she continued. “The area, the house, and how quiet everything is ... I love it.”

For Quandra, this home is more than just a place to live; it’s her sanctuary. But she understands well that her sanctuary does not provide peace without the support of Main Street Renewal and her local team.

“They really mean what they say: that this is your home,” she said. “They allow me to maintain the property outside. If I put flowers there, they don’t worry about that. It’s a blessing.”

And it’s not just the policies she enjoys. Quandra’s experience with Main Street Renewal’s staff has been equally positive. She spoke glowingly of Lacy and Mike, members of Main Street Renewal’s renovations and maintenance teams, who helped make her transition smooth and her overall resident experience memorable.

“Lacy made a genuine impact, starting at our first Main Street home and moving to this one,” she said. “He introduced himself, let me know why he was there, and asked if I needed anything. He made such an impression on my sons, my nephew, my grandkids, my daughter, and me.

“And [Mike] in maintenance made sure everything was taken care of when he had to visit the home,” she continued. “Then he said to me, ‘Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything,’ and he meant it.”

“That word ‘genuine,’” Quandra said, “it means a lot.”

While Quandra believes renting a home makes the most sense for her current situation, she believes this experience is helping to prepare her for future ownership opportunities. She emphasized how Main Street Renewal’s leasing model “teaches you to prepare to own because they give you that opportunity to experience a home as your own. Everything is written up in the lease ... what you’re responsible for, what’s needed. It makes you feel independent.”

Adding to that preparation and education, Quandra praised the consistency and transparency of her leasing process. “My lease is a steady price, just like a mortgage,” she said. “No hidden fees. You know what your rent is every month, and it doesn’t change.”

When asked what she would tell others who might be considering renting with Main Street Renewal, Quandra didn’t hesitate: “Come to Main Street. You’re going to be taken care of. You won’t have to worry about anything not getting done. ... They meet every one of your expectations. When they say they’re going to do something, they do it.”

For Quandra, Main Street Renewal isn’t just a leasing company, it’s her local team and partners in creating what “home” means to her and her family. And her rental experience with Main Street Renewal has left her with this final observation:

“It’s different when people are genuine and they care,” she said. “When you treat people right, right will come to you.”

We couldn’t agree more, Quandra.
